Fran Rodriguez | Collage Creator
Fran Rodriguez is a graphic designer from Cantabria and now lives in Barcelona who spends his time listening to music and dreaming of living in the mountains and being an astronaut.
His fascination with with collage as an art form started when he was very little. Cutting out people and animals from his grandmother’s magazines.
I used to put people’s faces onto animal bodies and vice versa.
He found Photoshop and discovered the lasso tool and layers and started doing collages without really knowing what he was doing. He says it just happened.
His work is marked by a fondness for surrealism and psychedelia. The “normal” perception of things has long ceased to interest him. He firmly believes that what we perceive through our senses is only the tip of the iceberg. Discovering what lies beneath the surface has become the closest thing to a life project he has ever had.
Every project varies, music plays a huge role in everything that he does. Music is always around, above and behind every piece he designs. He would love to collaborate and creating artworks for bands like Spiritualized.
His work inspired me funnily enough when doing work for Slipstream, a band that contains 2 former members of Spiritualized.
I also borrowed a collage for the background artwork my mix for Eclectics
