Victoria Topping
So I just heard a track by called Again by Tenesha The Wordsmith, a poet out of Oakland, California. Who’s love for poetry and music was born through her life in Oakland, Ca and the unique rhythm of the San Francisco Bay Area. Blending music and poetry is Tenesha’s way of paying tribute to the Bay Area. A place filled with art, music and romance.
So I got on the old interweb searchy box and found the Bandcamp page for On The Corner Records, where my eyes were as visually stimulated as my ears. The most wonderful artwork adorned the Bandcamp page and I needed to know who was responsible for such wonderment.
Victoria Topping is an artist and illustrator.
Graduating from UWE Bristol University in 2008 with a 1st Class BA(Hons) in Illustration.
Her work is heavily influenced by music, from the styling and art direction of 1970’s Jazz and Soul to the passion and ebullience of Gospel and Disco.
She takes musical aspects and synthesises them into visual forms, working towards distilling the vibrancy of music into a ‘music for the eyes’. Each work has its own unique soul, through harnessing a blend of spirituality, culture, the cosmos and mother earth.
Her pieces are created through building up multiple textures and images and combining these to develop a distinct visual language, using recurring motifs.
A fusion of technology and traditional techniques – often using photography, painting, gold-leafing and cut up collage which is then digitally scanned and arranged on the computer, manipulating the artwork agin and then producing print ready digital artwork.
Recently her output has expanded to include work in different media; large scale oil paintings, and one-off textured collages.
As well as producing original art work and prints, Victoria is the Artist Director of On The Corner Records where she undertakes all the visual side of the label producing stunning sleeve design and imagery.
She has also worked with Art Yard Records.
Victoria has created commercial work for brand identities; produce branding for festivals; large scale murals and nightclub interiors. As well as hand-embellished prints, personal and commercial commissions, cards, slipmatts and wallpaper
